Ports of Call - Hannibal, Missouri

Hannibal is a city in Marion and Ralls counties in the U.S. state of Missouri. Hannibal is located at the intersection of Interstate 72 and U.S. Routes 24, 36 and 61, approximately 100 miles (160 km) northwest of St. Louis. According to the 2010 U.S. Census the population was 17,606. The Hannibal Micropolitan Statistical Area is composed of Marion and Ralls Counties.

  • The Mark Twain Cave Complex
  • Mark Twain wrote, “By and by somebody shouted, “Who’s ready for the cave? Everybody was. Bundles of candles were procured and straight away there was a general scamper up the hill.” An experienced guide will escort you on a one-hour tour featuring points of interest mentioned in Mark Twain’s writings. Walkways are level and smooth and there are no steps. Persons of any age can easily make the tour. Bring a light wrap as the cave is 52 degrees year around. Wear sensible walking shoes and be sure to bring your camera.

  • Cameron Cave
  • Visit the Northern Hemisphere’s most complex cave, Cameron Cave, Missouri’s newest show cave. You’ll see the cave nearly as it was when first discovered. This lantern guided tour takes you through this complex maze cave. The tour last 1 ˝ hours and several visitors on the tour will carry lanterns. Enjoy this unique cave experience. Operating schedule: Memorial Day to Labor Day, tours daily at 10:00 a.m., Noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Other times and balance of the year by advance reservation. *Last tour: 1 hour before closing. Cave Complex closes at 5 pm if no 5 pm tour. Admission is required for both caves. A two-cave discount is available.

  • Join us for an old fashioned trolley ride. Step back in time with us and relive the adventures of Mark Twain’s days in Hannibal. We offer you the history of Hannibal, show you sights and give you a chance to stop and visit several of our local attractions.   • Located at the foot of Cardiff Hill at Main Street See the bronze statue of Twain’s most memorable and mischievous characters as they are depicted walking down the banks of the mighty Mississippi River, awaiting their next adventure. Sculpted in 1925 by Canton, Mo native Frederick Hibbard, it is one of seven statues in the world of literary characters.

  • A Hannibal tradition for more than forty years, the Tom Sawyer Dioramas are 3D hand crafted scenes made over a five-year period by artist Art Sieving. The sixteen dioramas highlight different key scenes of Mark Twain's masterpiece of American Literature, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Also featured in the museum are rotating exhibits highlighting the fascinating history of Hannibal from its humble beginning in 1819 through the rise of the millionaire Lumber Barons during the Gilded Age and into the 21st Centure.
